Key Takeaways

If you’re looking for a heavy bat that will help you go deep into relaxation, strangely named Mendo Breath will get you around the bases.

The budtender at Cannoe cannabis retail store in Toronto likely had no idea Mendo Breath could roll itself when he hyped it up to me earlier this year.

He said the potent one-and-only craft cannabis strain by Coterie was pretty much perfect (about three times) before I agreed to take it home for a review.

With anywhere from 21 to 27 percent THC, the hand-trimmed greenhouse-grown weed features tight, light khaki-green buds with deep orange pistils under a thin layer of trichomes. I took in a deep breath to uncover an aroma that reminded me of orange creamsicle popsicles. Mendo Breath is sticky like a popsicle, too, but still crumbled happily into my grinder and poured like liquid into my Redecan rolling paper.

Not only did I roll the best doobies ever, but they were heavy, like Babe Ruth’s baseball bat heavy. The Sultan of Spliff, I called one joint.

Traditionally, Mendo Breath is a sativa-dominant hybrid, created by crossing OGKB and Mendo Montage. Coterie’s Mendo Breath is a mix of Moon Shine Haze, Ghost Train Haze, and Mendo Breath Hybrid. With a high terpene ratio of two percent that includes beta-myrcene, d-limonene, and beta-caryophyllene, the strain produces a unique spicy hit followed by a delicate lavender aroma on exhale with notes of vanilla in the mix.

Each baseball bat lasted three innings, simply because it was so slow to burn. At one point — first j, second session — I turned to look at the fiery cherry in perplexity and said out loud, “You are beautiful.”

A light cerebral sativa buzz kicked in quickly and lasted a few hours. Initially, it felt like I was getting a facelift, but from underneath my skin. Thumbs up to that. Depending on how much you consume it’s quite powerful, but in small doses, Mendo Breath delivers a feeling of light relaxation, both physically and mentally. It's great for unwinding before or after a long day at the home office.

There is currently not much information online about Coterie, but Oxford Languages describes the word as, “A small group of people with shared interests or tastes, especially one that is exclusive to other people.” Cute. Coterie is also a brand owned by licensed cannabis producer Northern Green Canada.

Despite Mendo Breath sounding like a name I would have called my sister when we were kids, it is a perfect strain. Coterie definitely hit a home run with this one.
