What Does Garden Conservancy Mean?

The Garden Conservancy is a nonprofit organization in the United States that is focused on and dedicated to the preservation of beautiful gardens and landscapes. The purpose of the organization is to help develop preservation plans and strategies for exceptional gardens, including funding, organization, and other details.

Founded in 1989 by Frank Cabot, The Garden Conservancy is largely dedicated to assisting and preserving private gardens around the United States. These gardens are typically larger and more complex than your typical household indoor or outdoor garden, and they require a great deal of maintenance, care, and funding.

To help with these gardens, The Garden Conservancy often spearheads the movement to transition these privately owned gardens into nonprofit organizations. Since 1995, The Garden Conservancy has also been organizing and sponsoring “Open Days,” during which the gardens that they sponsor and help around the country are open to the public. In addition to helping with the preservation of these and other private gardens, the Conservancy also partners with state and municipal governments to help in the preservation and conservation of parkland and municipal gardens, as well.
