What Does Medical Marijuana Assistance Program of America (MMAPA) Mean?
During the time of its establishment (2009-2012), the short-lived Medical Marijuana Assistance Program of America (MMAPA) in the United States had a mission that focused on ensuring that veterans, indigent individuals, and hospice patients had easy access to alternative medicine such as medical marijuana.
The program was founded by Vincent Palazzotto in 2009 in Denver, Colorado. Its focus was on removing the stigma that was so often attached to marijuana usage.

The Medical Marijuana Assistance Program of America became well known for their advocacy of medical marijuana. In 2010, the MMAPA purchased a 1968 Airstream Overlander International that they turned into a fully functioning mobile facility to house the Mobile Doctors of America. They offered discount programs for indigent patients coupled with medical evaluations in areas where such services were not readily available.
The MMAPA became the first alternative medical treatment preferred provider organization (AT-PPO) in the United States. In 2012, the MMAPA shut down and is no longer offering any services. The high cost of the services eventually forced Vincent Palazzotto to go out of business.
The program also ran into difficulty when the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment started to reject the recommendations of the Mobile Doctors of America who were working with the MMAPA concerning patients in need of medical cannabis.
