What Does Monoterpenes Mean?
Monoterpenes are organic compounds that dictate the distinctive fragrance and flavor of the cannabis plant. The plant’s terpenes tend to be found in the highest concentrations on the flowers of the plant, however, they also occur on the foliage and roots of the plant.
The glandular hairs of the plant are the main terpene production sites. Monoterpenes are made up of two isoprene units, which are 10 carbon atoms. Besides creating a pungent odor, monoterpenes also play a key role in protecting the plant from fungal infections, certain strains of bacteria, and insects. The fragrance created by monoterpenes also helps attract pollinating insects.
