Last updated: November 9, 2021

What Does Honey Oil Mean?

Honey oil is a common moniker for a highly pure form of hash oil. The slang name of honey oil manifested for hash oil because of the cannabis extract's clear amber coloration that closely resembles the natural honey created by bees. It also has a sticky-like consistency.

Honey oil is highly concentrated and often contains 80 per cent or greater levels of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). The extraction process used to create honey oil generally involves the use of butane, CO2, or some other form of hydrocarbon.

Maximum Yield Explains Honey Oil

Honey oil is made by packing cannabis plant material into a glass test tube. At one end of the test tube, a screen is affixed. The test tube is held over a glass dish and a chemical solvent such as butane is injected through the other end of the glass test tube.

The cannabis plant material heats up and releases it cannabinoid and trichome rich oil that drip out of the screened end of the glass tube into the glass bowl.

The oil is then generally purged using heated water to remove any solvent residue and to further purify it.

Honey oil is usually smoked using a dab rig or vape pen.
