What Does Insecticide Mean?

An insecticide is a specially formulated pesticide that is used to kill, harm, repel or mitigate one or more species of insect. In cannabis cultivation, conscientious growers lean towards organic insecticides that are not harmful to humans or pets due to the fact that they are being used on consumable plants.

Insecticides can either be synthetic chemicals or made from organic substances, and come in various forms, including sprays, dusts, gels, and bait traps. Depending on the type and their ingredients, insecticides either disrupt the insect's nervous system, damage its exoskeleton, or repel it from the grow space.

Some insecticides have been known to harm birds and bees, so limiting their use is commonly recommended.

Maximum Yield Explains Insecticide

Cannabis grow rooms are ideal breeding grounds for various insects like white flies, spider mites, fungus gnats, and aphids. These critters thrive in the same environmental conditions marijuana plants thrive in, making them a constant threat.

Although indoor-grown plants are protected from outdoor elements, insects can still make their way indoors and quickly multiply. Once indoors, there are no natural predators to take care of the infestation for a grower's behalf, so often help in the form of insecticides is required.

If insecticide is required, marijuana growers are more and more turning to solutions like insecticidal soaps that are made of potassium-based fatty acids, neem oil derived from neem trees, and Bacillus thuringiensis (BT) – a microbial insecticide. One way to avoid the heavy use of repeated insecticides is prevention and/or integrated pest management systems. Adding screens and sticky traps also helps reduce insect infestations.

In addition to insecticides in the pest control market, growers can choose from herbicides and nematicides, but the most frequently used option for marijuana cultivators are the insecticides category of pest control.
