What Does Shake Flour Mean?

During handling of a marijuana plant’s buds and flowers, small pieces of the cannabis plant often break off. These small particles are called ‘shake’. Shake flour is a soft, powdery substance created by grinding the small, dried shake pieces of the cannabis plant into a fine powder.

The pieces used to create the flour must be extremely dry so that no mold or mildew whatsoever develops in the flour. Once the flour is created, it can be used to create a wide assortment of marijuana-laced edibles such as brownies, breads, cookies, cakes, pies, and more.

Shake flour is used in baking just like regular flour. Cannabis shake flour can be substituted for old-fashioned flour in any recipe that calls for flour.

Cannabis flour can be used just like any other baking flour. However, it does not have the pungent aroma of the marijuana plant. Great care must be taken when making shake flour to make sure that no stems or seeds fall into the shake or they will cause the shake flour to taste bitter and will sour whatever the flour is used to create.

Many people make shake flour using modern day grinders such as a grinder used to grind coffee beans; however, an old stone mortar will also work. Bakers frequently mix shake flour with regular flour when baking to control the dosage of cannabis in the baked goods. Any baked goods created with shake flour should not be baked at a temperature that exceeds 380 degrees Fahrenheit, or else the cannabinoids of the cannabis flour will be destroyed.
