What Does Kinetin Mean?
Kinetin is a plant hormone, more specifically a phytohormone, that is available commercially and can be applied to specific parts of the plant to activate or deactivate certain enzymes. It is a variant of cytokinins and aids in cell division.
Kinetin is mainly used to boost plant growth and development, especially during tissue culture and indoor grown plants. This product is commonly applied to increase the yield of strawberries, okra, beans, melons, cucumbers, peppers and tomatoes. Kinetin is readily available in spray form.

In addition to being a stand-alone product, kinetin is one of the main ingredients in pollinating sprays.
A variety of the cytokinin hormone, kinetin is particularly important to plants that are grown in sheltered environments like greenhouses. This is because the lack of breeze can make it difficult for pollination to occur.
Additionally, kinetin has been shown to be particularly efficient when sprayed on flowers that are just starting to open. This enables the hormone to better penetrate the plant and easily reach the ovule. It is also important to ensure that the blossoms are properly saturated for proper absorption.
According to the Department of Horticulture of the University of Oregon, kinetin can even encourage crops to yield larger fruits earlier in the season.
